Fidchell, also known as Faery Chess or Celtic Chess, is an ancient Celtic game that has been referenced in various Irish epics and chronicles. Referred to as Gwyddbwyll in the Welsh Mabinogion, it appears to have held a significant place of reverence across the British Isles. Faery Chess is the result of Nigel Suckling's exploration and interpretation of this lost game.

The game unfolds on a board marked with circles and lines where players strategically place and maneuver their pieces. Reminiscent of other ancient abstract board games like Nine Men’s Morris, pieces are positioned on the board first before being set into motion. Contrary to conventional capturing methods, which resemble Tafl games, pieces are captured when entrapped between an opponent’s two pieces. This action not only results in capturing the piece but also grants the player an extra move to potentially ensnare more.

The app showcases two game variants: the basic edition tailored for easier comprehension where both players operate on equal footing, and an advanced version introducing distinct player objectives. The primary aim remains interlinking the central Naval stone with the board’s border by establishing a continuous line of stones.

Offering both offline modes for play against human rivals or computer/AI opponents, as well as asynchronous online matches against other players, this application ensures versatile gameplay experiences.

Furthermore, the app incorporates advertisements which users can permanently disable by opting for a one-time In-App Purchase (IAP).
